David is nothing but smiles during a sailing day. The longer at sea, the scruffier he is…and the bigger the grin.

Buttercup is behaving herself; the varnish maintenance is looking awesome; I’m going for longer and longer walks; I’ve found even more ways to stash things away into hidden spots; David is happily coding away on his computer; I’m happily researching something interesting on my computer; and we’ve moved Mahdee to a cute little marina called Pete’s Harbor where we have an end tie with a lovely view of a wetland across Smith Slough and—bonus points here–we’re in the slip right next to Jackie, Mark, and Amanda on SV Chrokeva. Extra bonus–they’ve got two sweet dogs, Dancer and Jasmine, aboard. So–we get to gossip with old friends and play with their dogs.
Yes, life is good. I am reminded again of the wonderful Edith Wharton quote I put on the back of our boat cards
“One can remain alive long past the usual date of disintegration if one is unafraid of change, insatiable in intellectual curiosity, interested in big things, and happy in small ways.” Edith Wharton
I do believe with this life I could live to be quite old.
Edith Wharton:

In September 2004, David and I took a driving trip from Washington, DC to Nova Scotia. We drove completely around Nova Scotia and every night we’d stop and camp somewhere, pull out the computer and start writing up the application for a particular patent. Getting away from our business for those two weeks, we not only had a lovely trip, but we were able to get the application completed and turned in by our deadline for it. It took many years for that patent to issue. It just issued late this spring 2011. I was looking through pictures today and decided to post a slide show of our trip. There are pics of Buttercup getting a new alternator bracket made up behind the Ace Hardware store, David writing on a picnic table next to the car, and many photos of back road driving and a very lovely time in Nova Scotia.
