Last look at the AYC overhead

Well, as I type, the double layer marine meranti plywood is going on over the raised deck’s lovely Alaskan Yellow Cedar subdeck/overhead. We’ll see it from below, just not from above. Click on image for larger view

Redrilling for the shaft log

Replacing the counter timber last year meant that the 2-3/8″ and 32″ long tube drilled though Mahdee’s stern post and counter had to be re-drilled. After re-drilling, David drilled a “counter sink” so to speak for the larger stuffing box and cutlass bearing to fit around the bronze shaft log.

Here, David is relieved and happy. The boring of the tube went fine and the counter-bore also went well. He rigged a funny little jig to do the counter-bore by using a hole sole (backwards) as a centering bit and another hole saw (forward) to drill out the counter bore.
