Belvedere Cove

Peaceful week at SFYC here.

The ferry to downtown San Francisco. See the fogbank in the background? This is a look across the Raccoon Straight to the eastern part of the Bay.

Another view of Mahdee at the SFYC. See the San Francisco skyline shrouded in fog in the background. Belvedere Cove is often sunny when the rest of the Bay area is foggy.

Relax, we’re here. Let’s enjoy it.

So, life intervenes. That’s life, right? We managed to get a bit of the intrusions of our reality under control today and I just took several deep breaths–we’re having fun, right? Yes.

As I gaze at the birds on the water, listen to the wind in the rigging, and enjoy being surrounded by the traditional, old, and “shippy” Mahdee, I am again reminded of the following insight from Henry David Thoreau:

If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams and endeavors to live the life he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.

Life Intervenes

Whenever we’re doing something with Mahdee–say planning our passage down the coast for example–always some part of “Life” jumps up and intervenes in a small but irritating way. Yesterday, I was stitching away on sunbrella covers and whatnot and tuning up my sewing machine for the big project of a sail repair needed before the trip when suddenly I realized that we have several admin. tasks that must happen before we go down the coast. One of them is a dread paperwork nightmare for me, being a tax-related thing’; it is due at the end of the month; another a patent-related thing due in 10 days that we don’t have to do much more work on but the lawyer is likely to be calling around the time that we’re totally out of touch in a remote anchorage somewhere; and then there’s the little pile of “returns” that require us to find a UPS location to ship things various places before we go.

So, today, I’m wading through trade records, locating a UPS center, and emailing the lawyer to get him to do his stuff while we’re still accessible. I thought we’d be headed out in a couple days. Maybe the weekend..
