Yes, we launched!

Happy day…happy day. We launched yesterday afternoon. Mahdee is now sitting happily in a slip, taking up water. Even though we had numerous pumps on board, only the main pump has had to work. She has a bit of seeping going on from a couple areas where the forekeel is fastened into the main keel. We’ll hope they close up within a few days. Her planking didn’t start weeping for about an hour and now we can see a bit of weeping in most places. She’s riding bow high and stern down. The bow is out of the water about 4 inches; the stern right at the waterline. When the masts are installed and she’s trimmed up, hopefully she’ll be at the correct waterline position.

I’ve attached a bunch of pics to this post…enjoy…will post more in a few days-the computer is at the boatshed and…well…we’re spending time on the boat.

Christmas Cold…burrrrrrr

We spent Christmas in our normal range of daily pursuits–starting and finishing projects on Mahdee. We worked very hard in week before Christmas to get the wood burning stove installed so we could have a warm, cosy fire for the holiday. However, it wasn’t to be. The rain made it very difficult to do the “outside” parts of the project. The cold made it difficult for the glue to “go off” and dry, too.

Pics taken in the last week or so include David installing the metal for around the stove and making the hole in the deck for the stove pipe.

The stove was hard to get into place since it weighs almost 400 lbs; Beamer had been sleeping under it while it sat in the middle of the galley. While we moved it, he had to “relocate” to his old sleeping place in the storage areas under the bed in the stateroom.

Hawse pipes and bowsprit work

David just loves drilling holes in the boat. As soon as I’ve got them all filled up properly with whatever belongs in them–be it bungs, or other fittings–he goes off drilling more holes!

These are important. The 3″ hawse pipes go in these holes. The chain and line from the anchor windlass fit through the hawse pipes and then run out to the bow roller on the bowsprit.

David repairs the slot in the end of the bowsprit where the hinge pin will go. That bowsprit sure is long…
