In the Cockpit

In the cockpit

We really didn’t take very many pictures while sailing during the Schooner Race. We were far from other boats most times. Towards the end of the day, I took several shots “in the cockpit” including a couple good ones of David standing on the aft-deck above Jim as Jim guided Mahdee around the last rounding and up through the finish line.

I’m almost certain that I was admonishing Jim while I took this picture as Mahdee is heeled quite beyond my limits at this moment.

Finally in front of someone! We can feel like we’re going somewhere. Sal and Lacey enjoying the last bit of time before the finish.

Lacey took a bunch of pictures. I can’t wait to see them.

Great Views

David went up the mast a few days back to install boom lifts for the foresail. Here are a couple pictures he took. The first is looking East at the farmland with the sloughs running through it and a boat anchored at almost each bend, the second view is to the West. In both you can see the rock walls of the levy around the slough. These levies used to be tree covered–which must have been quite lovely–but farmers have taken to using ugly rocks instead. I imagine that 30 years ago visiting the Delta was much prettier than it is today. It also probably provided much more shelter for wildlife and birds.

Each morning we have a lovely sunrise over the water.

Blackberries in the Delta

We’ve been enjoying a lovely week of sitting at anchor, swimming, sailing the Tinker, working on little boat projects and…eating blackberries here in the California Delta.

Swimming in warm freshwater rather than cold saltwater is really a treat for us. Enjoying perfect days in the mid-80’s is really nice too. We are fast becoming spoiled by it all.

The other day, while I had the sewing machine out working on making the foresail cover, I fixed our Navy Yacht Club San Diego burgee since it was beginning to unravel at the tip. It is the only burgee we fly, so it is rather important that it look nice.
