Yes, we launched!

Happy day…happy day. We launched yesterday afternoon. Mahdee is now sitting happily in a slip, taking up water. Even though we had numerous pumps on board, only the main pump has had to work. She has a bit of seeping going on from a couple areas where the forekeel is fastened into the main keel. We’ll hope they close up within a few days. Her planking didn’t start weeping for about an hour and now we can see a bit of weeping in most places. She’s riding bow high and stern down. The bow is out of the water about 4 inches; the stern right at the waterline. When the masts are installed and she’s trimmed up, hopefully she’ll be at the correct waterline position.

I’ve attached a bunch of pics to this post…enjoy…will post more in a few days-the computer is at the boatshed and…well…we’re spending time on the boat.

Victory at sea

OK, on land…

The stove works! Last night 11 pm we had our first fire in the Shipmate stove. Seems the newly-cast firebricks didn’t break and we’re still here so the boat didn’t burn down 🙂

Of course, all the paraffin-based lube/sealant we’d put on the stove to keep it from rusting slowly “smoked” off and the boat smelled like way too many candles burning. Yuck. We had to keep a couple port holes open to clear that paraffin smoke once it started.

With Brenda feeding stovebox periodically all night, we had a fire until about 5:00 am when we ran out of wood…and Brenda didn’t feel like going out into the wet, cold morning to get more scraps of hardwood from our scrap-wood pile.
