Back to the Boat

Ah, so nice to be home.

It was great seeing David’s father and step-mom. We’re sorry that Dad was in the hospital for the duration of the stay, but we still managed to have a lot of good times with him while there in Arizona.

About Arizona. I could swear that people used to go there for good air quality. That seems to have changed. For the duration of our stay, the air quality was rated “poor” and many warnings issued about it. As typical of a visit to Dad in Arizona, I immediately caught a cold/sinus infection. This time, David caught one too. So, we drove home, pumped up the inflatable dingy (stored in the trunk of the car), said hello to a couple old sailors at the marina–they assured us that Mahdee had been a good girl while we were gone–no frolicking with other boats in the mooring field; we then rowed out to the boat and …. slept for 18 hours. Getting up only to pop another dose of cold meds.

Around noon today, we decided we needed to get Mahdee off the mooring and back into her schedule of play-dates with the local anchorages. So, we motored over to Glorietta Bay where we’re presently sitting awaiting the lovely sunset and Christmas lights going on the Hotel Del Coronado. Tomorrow there will be a Christmas parade of lights downtown. We’ll be able to see the Coronado Yacht Club boats as they prepare and take part.

Re-arrange the Blog

The time has come for me to dig in and overhaul the blog. The old WordPress format was great but I really need to just sit down and re-do it. Argh. I’ll hope this can be a positive learning experience! Since we host the blog on our own server (no, not on the boat, it is located at a fixed facility “somewhere” out there (I suspect India since the price is so good for hosting) that means there are many little admin things that need to be done at the same time.

Today I’ll spend some time learning about all the “new” stuff i can do with WordPress.

San Diego Yacht Club

Whenever we spend a few days on recips at SDYC, I come away relaxed, relaxed, relaxed. Can’t work on the boat there (yeah!) so we have no choice but to just enjoy life for a couple days. We pulled into SDYC from the A9 anchorage on Tuesday and spent that day at the North Island wood shop milling (again!) and then spent yesterday visiting Paul at Absolute Saab to figure out what we’re doing with Buttercup and Wesley in regards to repairs big and small. A visit to Paul is fun…he lives out in the middle of nowhere on a great little up-down-all-around dirt road. Driving a 99 (like Buttercup) there is so “natural” that I think Paul purchased the place just to have that fun “Saab” drive.

We’ve purchased a rebuilt tranny for Wesley from Paul. As usual, while David is working on boat projects he starts “craving” car projects. So, next week we’ll be picking it up and David will be having “fun” pulling the old one out of Wesley and installing the new one. That means Wesley should be good-to-to for another decade or two. I suppose David will have to go back to boat projects 🙂

We left SDYC this morning and are anchored (again) in nearby La Playa. Lovely long weekend with Veterans’ Day starting today.
