A comment via email

After David and I chuckled over it, we just had to share this (email comment rec’d yesterday regarding the Mahdee blog) from a friend in the Netherlands:

I enjoy reading your blog and I’m still impressed by the way you and Brenda
live your life! The language you use when talking about the Mahdee is
sometimes like watching Startrek for me; I don’t know half the words they
use, but I keep on watching…

Cold, Cold day today and the cockpit is gone.

Hard to think that it could be so close to freezing! It was down in the mid-30’s last night. John was finishing up the epoxy coating on some of the laminated frames today. He had to sit the container of epoxy resin in hot water to warm it up before combining it with the catalyst. Thank goodness it did kick-off! David and John took out the cockpit today and moved the big heavy steering gear from the cockpit to the deck next to the charthouse. All in prep of taking out the tailfeather. The yard carpenter worked on finishing up the foremast step and made the last floor needed mid-ship.

I was at the computer all day taking care of our business matters while David was working in the cold on the boat. I usually envy him the time on the boat. But, not today!

Last week we ordered a gigantic log of purpleheart from Washington state. Its 12×12 x 18′ long. Very heavy. We’ll get the shipment schedule this week. Before it arrives, the measurements have to be taken from the existing tailfeather, the hull supported ’round the tailfeather, the old one removed. There’ll be pictures coming. I didn’t get pics of the cockpit removal, but I’ll take some tomorrow of the big open area that was the cockpit.

Alexander Moffat Yachting Profile

Today was a good day in the “history” arena. A few weeks ago I purchased the April, 1931 issue of Yachting from a vintage publication shop and it showed up today in the mail. I was in search of February 1932 which is the issue with Mahdee, but I was very happy to find this issue for Mahdee’s library. April 1931 was the month Mahdee was launched. We expected to see a little note about the launching perhaps. Instead, the Yachting has a full page profile of Alexander W. Moffat. As it turns out, 1931 was the year that he became Commodore of the Cruising Club of America.
